A Short History

In April of 2006, a group of players were chosen to form an elite team. They had no ground, clubhouse or subscription and membership was by invitation only. In essence, they represented a glorious concept brought to life by the vision and enthusiasm of one man, Mr S Badger. Inspired by his personal playing experiences with friends from Bromsgrove rugby club, his dream was to spread good fellowship amongst all rugby football players.  The dream became reality on May 19th 2006 at Kings Norton rugby club.  There, all things great about the game - flair, courage, spirit and passion were encapsulated in one great team. A team they called the Squashed Badgers and a team that went on to win the 2006 Kings Norton Sevens Tournament.

Mission Statement - January 2007

As a new board of player of The Squashed Badgers we are dedicated to ensuring that our team survives at the highest possible level of competition available and to set the team on a solid and viable base from which it can face the challenges of the future.  We have ambitions to promote The Squashed Badgers as the premier sevens team in the Midlands and to ensure that our coaching and playing staff have the best facilities and support base from which to launch a sustained challenge for other seven’s tournaments. To achieve our aims, we know that a huge collective effort will be required from everybody involved with the team. We need sponsors to offer financial backing for all the teams activities, and we need a small army of dedicated volunteers to carry them out. Above all, we need the passionate supporters who have followed our team through thick and thin over so many years, to keep faith with the team that we all hold close to our hearts.
In return, we vow to be accountable for our decisions, and to make the team fully accessible to our members.  If The Squashed Badgers is to have a future at all, then it must belong to all the supporters, officials, players and coaches who are dedicated to its success. We are confident that we can build on the proud traditions of our past, and with a clear vision for the future, that all our ambitions can yet be realised.
